Bryce Canyon, as seen from the rim during sunset, is not technically a canyon, rather, an amphitheater. In the 1850's, Ebenezer Bryce, was the first Mormon pioneer to settle, farm, and ranch in the area. Mr. Bryce, for whom the area was named after, reportedly said that the the canyon, with its maze of hoodoos, was a "hell of a place to lose a cow".
