I met Mohamed and his horse Helicopter later in the evening. We rode around the desert on horseback and watched the sunset behind the pyramids. Mohamed told me stories about himself and his family. His father and grandfather used to give horseback rides around the pyramids too. When he was younger, he used to play soccer in the desert, right next to the pyramids. He also used to climb to the top of the pyramids when he was a kid and also up until a few years ago, whenever business was slow. However, recently, a 12 mile fence was constructed around the perimeter of the pyramid complex, monitored by CCTV and motion sensors. He told me that in the past, if I, a tourist, had wanted to climb one of the larger pyramids, I would have to bribe a few guards, but now it would be too much trouble.
